I have made this PCB for my digital vario transformer project. In this project I need two adjustments: One for AC and one for DC outputs. It all will be controlled by a main controller and two 7 inch displays. See my TFT controller here. I have used an ALPS encoder with 30 steps all the way around. It also has a push function which allows it to be used to control a menu system on a seperate screen or whatever you want to use it. it's just a matter of customizing the software to work the way you want. Around the button, which is a 38mm large solid aluminum type, Ihave put 45 RGB LEDs. They can make any color.

The idea with these LED's is that you must be able to adjust different things such as current, voltage and power which respectivily have their own color. Then it is quick and easy to see what it is you are dealing with. By pressing the button you can choose whether you want to set volts, amperes or watts. If you then hold the button down for three seconds, you can fine-tune in higher resolution. It will probably made it so that you always start with fine tuning so you do not turn up the power too much by accident.

I have made the PCB so that it is connected to my own 'standard' data bus with two MicroMatch connectors. One for input and one for output. You can put as many PCB's in series on the data bus as you want. Each PCB has its own ID, so the main controller always knows which one you are using. The communication is two-way so the main controller can respond back and set the color and position of the LEDs. Then you always know for sure that the message has been received at the other end and you are controlling the right parameter.

The PCB can of course be used for all sorts of different things, eg it can be used to control a digital volume control or a position on a stepper motor (as in my case), light control - fx adjusting light intensity and RGB colors, motor speeds, window positions and much more.
